THIS IS THEIR DEBUT PERFORMANCE!!!
Those of us who frequent the Cafe know the extremely talented couple Robin Soares & Jon Hathaway of 5 Flavor Discount Fame, Blues Sunday’s and Thursday Night ‘Summer Music’. This is a NEW band they have formed with tons of new music and a new way to totally entertain us and get the room going! When we asked them to explain the ‘vibe of the new group-this is what they said:
Featuring some of the most versatile, talented, and respected musicians around! Playing a magical mix of rock and funk covers and originals!”
“We are a different kind of band – with many tricks up our sleeves. But don’t be fooled by our name!
The Band of Illusion is comprised of some of the most versatile, respected, talented, and exciting players in
the state! We play a lot of cool tunes that you might not hear all the time, but will surely get you moving – whether it’s dancing, clapping, convulsing on the floor, or kissing the guy next to you- you will have some fun with us! Seriously.
High-energy shindigs with wild guitar, bumpin’ bass, thumpin’ drums, cool keys, and of course lead vocals and harmonies. Carefully-selected, polished, and made our own – we play an eclectic mix of ROCK and FUNK tunes and originals that we will hope that you at least pretend to like. But we think you’ll like them – if not, we’ll put a spell on you, and you will have no choice! We promise we won’t bore you!”
With tunes from artists including:
James Brown,Cream,Funkadelic,The Rolling Stones,Curtis Mayfield,The Beatles,Dr. John,Living Colour,Johnny “Guitar” Watson,Jimi Hendrix,Ohio Players,Led Zeppelin,Isley Brothers,Little Feat,Solomon Burke

Saturday October 6th
9:30-1:00
Ok you guys- It has been waaaaaaaaaay tooooo looong since Evan Goodrow has made the trek down from Cambridge to boogy with us! They are just getting back from a festival in New Orleans so they will be totally jacked and still in the party mood!
OK Most of you know how we feel about this band–True raw talent, GREAT musicians, giant amounts of energy, and a real passion for every note they play. Evan Goodrow Band is one you definitely DON’T want to miss at the Cafe t… They hail from Cambridge, Mass and travel a lot so we don’t get to have them into the Ganny as often as we would like.
Ok- This is one of those times I am going to say JUST COME!
Evan Goodrow Band has come to the Cafe a couple of times in the past BUT he was showcased on WMVY radio for an ENTIRE MONTH and he played at their gala at the Tennis Hall of Fame to a packed house! (Just remember who found him first :)….These guys are totally talented and get the room going like crazy!
Sometimes you just know a band is going to be great! As soon as I clicked on the first song on their website I couldn’t stop!(One of my Favorite tunes is ’ Girls Dance with Girls’ – funny!) This is going to be a great night at the Ganny with a funky, soulful, fun, talented band. One of our regulars couldn’t believe we were having them here..ran out to their car and grabbed one of their CD’s and popped it into our stereo- where it has been ever since!
The EGB (Evan Goodrow Band) is a high energy Soul Music Project, pumping Originals and the best of Old School Funk. As an independent artist, Evan has released nine records under his ownrecord label as well as playing with(or backing up) B.B. King, JimmyBuffett, Buddy Guy, Peter Frampton, Eddie Money, G.E. Smith, Entrain,
Gordon Beadle, David Maxwell, and Bruce Katz and Sam Kininger (ofSoulive).
See you Saturday!
Sunday October 7th
RORY & the HOUNDS
with special guest
4:00-7:00
You guys have been fortunate enough to see Rory on a Friday or Saturday night and get a 'taste' of his love of the blues. But now he is coming in to show you what he has really got!-
THIS WILL BE AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rory and the Blues Hounds truly come into their own with Providence, a colorful array of urban and rural blues and R&B that sounds like they've got their eyes on a Roomful-like repertoire. Led by Rory Malloy's sharp guitar, the band features great performances and accomplished songwriting. Though they touch on country blues, pop, and even world music ("Aboriginal"), their strength remains in meat-and-potatoes blues. That the band is not afraid to take chances is wonderful -- it will only serve to widen their audience from its blues base. But it's that blues base that makes Rory and the Hounds really get after it.
Boston's DIANE BLUE has the “whole package” – she is a strong vocalist, skillful harmonica player and a crowd pleasing entertainer. Voted Outstanding Female Singer in The Blues Audience 2011 Readers’ Poll, Ms. Blue is a soulful and sassy performer with a strong, confident attack and energetic delivery, serving up her own spin on soul, blues and R&B.
Ms. Blue won the 2010 Massachusetts Blues Challenge, earning the honor of competing at the 2011 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee. She was nominated for "Best Female Singer" in the 2010 Blues Audience Readers Poll, "Best Blues/R&B Act" and "Best Female Vocalist in 2007 by the Providence Phoenix and also nominated "Best Local Blues Act" by Motif Magazine in 2007.
Ms. Diane Blue has played harmonica and/or sung with guitarist extraordinaire, Ronnie Earl, as well as international performers Luther Guitar Jr. Johnson (former sideman for Muddy Waters), Big Jack Johnson (of Clarksdale, Mississippi) and Irma Thomas (the Soul Queen of New Orleans). Juke joint legend Big Jack Johnson dubbed Ms. Blue “A Monster” on the harp after she performed as his guest star at Red's Lounge in Clarksdale, Mississippi.
Great talent in both vocals and instruments. This will be a wonderful afternoon of live blues, dancing and great food and libations!
See you Sunday!
